The SC Difference

Summer Classics - The Difference

The difference is in the details. Every element of the Summer Classics experience, from design to conception, is carefully considered. Minutiae matters.

When designing our wooden furniture pieces, we needed a material that had the highest natural weather resistance available. Therefore, we sought out the finest teak in the world, the only kind rated for marine use. If it is good enough for ship decks whose home is the ocean, it is good enough for our Ocean™ line. We also build our wooden pieces with mortise and tenon construction, an ancient method so time-tested and true that it is used today yet older than the nail itself.

All of our cast aluminum and cast iron pieces begin as a flat, featureless block of wood. With our designers’ precise drawings, skilled carpenters and artisans painstakingly transform the wooden blank into a one-of-a-kind sculpture from which a master mold can be made.

The freshly molded pieces go through a highly technical process of cleaning and curing before they are prepared to receive a ceramic powder coat and hand-applied details.

Our wrought aluminum and resin wicker lines are also manufactured by hand, as no machine could realize the complex and detailed pieces according to their original designs. Tubing precisely bent and carefully painted, wicker methodically and intricately woven, the fit and finish of the end products is astounding, more inclined to belong inside your home than outside of it.

The fabrics we use are specifically designed for outdoor use, robust enough to be used on sea-faring yachts, retractable awnings and convertible sports cars. They do not rot and are so fade resistant that your style will change before the colors do. If you pour bleach on them the colors will remain steadfast. Although fabrics are durable, they are soft to the touch. Add to these characteristics the vast array of classic and cutting-edge designs and colors Summer Classics has available and you begin to envision the potential of your own outdoor living space.

Every Summer Classics cushion is sewn and filled at our Montevallo, AL Cushion Manufacturing Facility. The sound of the sewing machines is a song of expertise and handcraftsmanship, hands moving with such facility and grace as to make a surgeon blush. Their teamwork seems even more impressive under the motley sounds of Latin pop, Hip Hop and Classic Rock emanating from different stations throughout the floor, representing the incredible diversity of seamstresses we are fortunate to have.

From the hands of an artists and scientists, the detailed manufacturing process represents an amalgam of old world techniques and new world innovation. It is not easy, but it is the only way we can produce the kind of products we can be truly proud of.

And that is just the furniture.

Walking into a Summer Classics retail store is a stand-alone experience. What unfolds before you is not a collection of finely appointed furnishings, it is the physical representation of what the finest outdoor living lifestyle can be.

Accessories, fabrics, outdoor lighting; all of it is carefully considered before it is offered to the public. And our customers agree that what they find is unprecedented.

If there is not a fabric that suits our needs, we make it. If the accessories we must have are not at hand, we literally search the world until we find it. Compromise is out of the question.

Summer Classics is a place of passion and creativity, all bent towards offering an experience, a lifestyle, that beautifully joins the majesty of the out-of-doors and the comfort of your own home.

Come, relax, enjoy, and you will have experienced the SC difference yourself.
